3D printing camera lens with stereolithography

In the marvelous world of 3D printing, we already known many types of 3D printing. But these usually used pinhole camera.

These are simple cameras without a lens, but have a small hole - a pinhole that allows light to fall on the film. Depending on how long you have been exposed, you can develop nice photos. The key point of the SLO 3D printing camera is that the lens is also 3D printed!

Using a stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer, the engineers produce and polish a set of camera lenses that can capture real, honest and kind photos.

The engineers’ documents and operating instructions. If you have an SLA 3D printer, you can try making your own printer.

The first process involved designing the lens and balancing distortion using optical design software. Professional lens designers use commercial software packages, but free open source software like ray tracers is a suitable replacement.

Once the lens is fabricated on a 3D printer, polishing and finishing begins. That is try to find a best result through the different ways.

After several attempts of manual sanding and automatic sanding, the 3D printing camera lens is immersed in liquid resin for best results.

However, the dipping will slightly change the focus of the lens. So there should design a lens test device that it can connect to a digital camera for instant feedback.
